Lately I’ve been noticing how many ways I can take a “mini-retreat” to nurture my inner cravings for some soul time. I can nurture my own feminine brilliance by carving out some time to get deeply present and notice what my heart really wants.

Do YOU often feel frazzled, scattered, tired, stressed or burned out? Do you feel your brilliance is buried beneath layers of fear, self-doubt, self-judgement and self-sabotage?

You’re probably not being as radiant and brilliant as you could be if you were to slow down and nurture yourself on a regular basis. I invite you to give yourself the gift of a retreat for your soul!

Here are a few ways you can create a mini-retreat for yourself and give your soul the nurturing attention it needs:

Mini-Retreat #1: Take Time to BE.  Take 30 minutes by yourself to just BE. Turn off the smart phone, laptop and any distractions and  close the door of a room you can spend some quiet time in. Now just BE. Get comfortable and quiet and let your mind and body relax and be at peace. If you’re always busy and on the go, this might be a little scary or disconcerting, but it will put you into a very relaxed zone and be wonderfully rejuvenating. I love to just let go and surrender for a short time and rest my mind and body.

Mini-Retreat #2: Spend Time Tuning Into Nature.  The natural world can be powerfully rejuvenating. Take a hike in the woods, walk on a beach or putter in your garden. Sit by a campfire, enjoy the view at a mountain overlook or rent a cabin/cottage. Or, just sit on your porch, deck or patio and take in the natural world in your own back yard. I do this almost daily and it recharges me between my regular daily activities.

Mini-Retreat #3: Embrace Your Deeper Wisdom.  The best way to do this is to be open to your inner intuition and resources through yoga, meditation, reflection or journaling. 15 to 20 minutes of this retreat time will put you back into a more relaxed and highly creative mode by allowing your feminine energy to flow through you and open your heart to fresh ideas and solutions. I do this several times a day in a quiet area of my home I’ve created for this quick retreat time and I always emerge feeling refreshed and available for my next task.

Your Feminine Brilliance Unleashed

It took many years for me to learn the art of self-love and self-care. My personal touchstone has been chronic illness, a challenge that led me to my spiritual practice and ultimately taught me to accept myself just as I am. Open Your Heart to YOURSELF

Falling in love with your brilliance CAN happen if you open your heart wide – wide enough to let YOURSELF in. If you have been hurt or shamed in the past, your heart may have become closed to FEELING love – especially for yourself. I’d like to share a feminine practice I use in my coaching programs and women’s circles I call “Open Your Heart to Yourself”. It will help you experience an opening of your heart in an experiential way rather than repeating affirmations or “processing your issues”.

Your intention for this practice is to experience deep love and compassion for yourself. Your heart is the portal to awakening love in yourself. It holds the intuitive powers that will allow an infinite flow of love to yourself and everyone around you.

Here are 3 simple steps to open your heart to more self-love:

Step 1:  Relax and connect to your heart by breathing deeply into your heart space. Begin to feel the warmth inside of your heart. Feel the glow, the confidence, the harmony, the love. 

Step 2:  As you open up your heart to yourself, feel it opening wider and wider. Can you feel more tenderness and compassion and accept your own love for yourself?

Step 3:  Just see how it feels to be open and receptive to your own love, and sit with that feeling for a few minutes.

The more you take time to practice this, the more you’ll feel newborn love for yourself and others.

Women Need Women

I’d like to offer a final note about growing into your self love and feminine brilliance. I see a lot of women trying to transform themselves all BY themselves. We’re not meant to do this all alone. Whether it’s a one-on-one mentorship, a women’s circle or time with close girlfriends, the partnerships you form with other women can help support you to see your unique gifts and learn to love and express them.

Women need to be connected to other women in ways that create a safe sanctuary of warmth, tenderness and love. This is one of my favorite quotes from the beloved Wayne Dyer, one of my long time mentors and one who has greatly influenced the expression of my “inner music”.

Do you love music? Do you make music?

I do and I do! My former career (and still part-time love) was music performance and education. I’m a pianist and a singer (yep, a high screaming soprano). I taught music (voice, piano and Kindermusik), directed music groups and sang solo and in choirs for over 20 years.

AND, my husband is also an uber-talented music director, organist, pianist, and choral/orchestral conductor and we’ve been making music together for over 30 years (oops, just gave away our age)! That’s us after a really fun benefit performance we did together at a friend’s house. We’ve been really “in tune” with each other for a long time now! Jim accompanies and supports me on the keyboard so my singing will reach the hearts of many.

Now that my primary career is coaching and mentoring women, I often observe how many women still have their beautiful, exquisite music trapped inside them. This always saddens me because I know they have extraordinary gifts that the world needs right now! In fact, I know they have an incredible passion stirring in their soul, but they just haven’t quite yet gathered the courage to get on stage and sing that song to the world!

Over the past few years I’ve turned my own gifts of teaching children and adults how to sing and make music into a career teaching women how to sing about what’s in their hearts. I mid-wife those songs and nurture them to be birthed and expressed as magnificent melodies and harmonies that make a difference in the lives of others.

It’s my absolute love to co-create glorious music with other women. There’s never been anything more satisfying than to nourish the creative virtuoso in others. It’s how I make MY magnificent music and express the passion that stirs MY soul.

Maybe it’s time to do a little spring cleaning! But the spring cleaning I’m talking about isn’t cleaning out your office, creating a new marketing strategy or launching a new product or service.

Is Your Heart Tugging at You?

What I’m suggesting is that there’s something much bigger afoot here. Perhaps your heart is nudging you towards what really matters, and it’s not the practical day-to-day “outer” business strategies and activities.

So what’s up?

If you’re feeling stuck, sluggish or uninspired I’m guessing the reason is not on the OUTSIDE, but rather on the INSIDE. Perhaps what you really need is to spring clean your business from the inside out!

Most likely, what’s happening is your heart is telling you it’s time to step up in a whole new way. Because when your heart decides it’s time to show up in new and bolder ways, it’s inviting you to make choices that are from that deeper, soul-driven part of yourself. That bolder, bigger part of yourself is going to PULL you until you wake up to what it’s trying to reveal to you.

If you ignore this pull, you’ll eventually just get a bigger pull! Sometime it shows up as a crisis and begs you to transform! Ouch! But your heart knows what really matters. Your soul knows what you came here to do. And everything that happens is going to set things up for you to get the message – including business frustrations and failures.

Ask the Deeper Questions

So what do you think? Are your heart and soul nudging you to do some spring cleaning from the inside out? Try asking yourself the following questions, or other questions you create yourself. Keep asking them until you start to get some answers about why things are not progressing as you hoped.

• Am I hiding and staying invisible because I don’t think I have something important to contribute?
• Am I playing it safe rather than going for my dreams – which might be a bit scary?
• Am I doing the bigger, bolder passionate stuff that really matters to me?
• Am I digging deep and unblocking energy and gremlins that keep me stuck in playing small?
• Am I allowing my “head voices” and cultural conditioning to hold me back instead of listening to my intuitive “heart passions”?

 As you go through this process, just let go and listen. Surrender to what’s trying to express through you. See what’s really going on inside that’s getting in the way. Challenge yourself to find the deeper answers.

In our modern times we can make an infinite number of lifestyle choices, but often we make so many that we completely overwhelm ourselves. The freedoms we enjoy as 21st Century women have actually created lives of incredibly high stress, burnout, dissatisfaction, depression and poor health.

These stressors have sucked the life out of us and left us in a state of “perpetual survival mode” — the number one reason we are just plain unhappy, unhealthy and exhausted. When we get to the end of the day and ask, “What did I do for ME today?”, we just don’t feel like we’re thriving in our lives.

Ask the Deeper Questions

Take a few moments to ask yourself the following questions. They should help you zero in on some of the things that may be causing you stress that you aren’t even aware of.

• Are all your life structures in sync with what makes you a happy, fulfilled, flourishing and prospering woman?
• What’s not working?
• What needs to go?
• What’s missing?
• What do you long for?
• What do you want to change right now?
• What would a healthy, balanced and relaxed life be like for you?

If you’ve never taken the time to ask yourself these questions or considered taking time out for YOU, there are several practices you can learn to start some nurturing self-care, begin to deeply relax and clear out old energy that no longer serves you, your work or your life.

One of the biggest reasons women are experiencing stress is because they are constantly in their “head energy”. A shift to our feminine “intuitive energy” can be very helpful in reducing stress and creating a “feminine relaxation zone”.

Following are 3 practices that will help you make this shift from a masculine energy that may be draining you to embracing your feminine energy. They will help you feel more grounded in your body and will put you into that relaxation zone you’re craving.

Take a Feminine Energy Restoration Break.  Take 5 – 10 minutes whenever you are feeling spaced out, stressed out or anxious. Your bodymind is giving you the signal that you need to be more centered and grounded into your energetic body. Sit, stand or lie down and place your hands over your belly (womb area) and take a few deep breaths. Drop your attention into the pelvic area and watch your breath there. This is your feminine power, creativity and intuitive center. Feel your feminine essence radiating from that energy center (also called the lower dan tien in Qigong).

Keep your attention there and on breathing deeply into your belly area for 5 – 10 minutes or more. Send your presence and attention to your womb space and stay out of your head space. This will balance and center you into your feminine energy and will help you relax and feel more receptive and magnetic. You should feel restored and refreshed and as though you have shifted from a “survival mode” to a “thriving zone”.

Deeply Let Go.  This is a deep relaxation practice (it can be a spiritual practice as well if that resonates). The premise of the practice is that “healing takes place in relaxation”. If you want to shift, change and heal your life toward one of being fully awake, fully expressed and fully alive, this practice will allow your original and authentic essence to emerge effortlessly.

Sit or lie in a place that is distraction free. Again, focus the breath on your abdomen and pelvic area. Keep your attention on the breath and feel your body relax and let go. Just surrender to the surface you’re sitting or lying on. You might silently chant “let go” with your inhale and exhale to help you keep your attention on the breath and belly. Now set an intention to completely let go into the stillness and allow yourself to be completely open to listening for what wants to express through you.

As you do this practice over a period of time you’ll begin to notice shifts in your life that happen effortlessly, without any pushing, reasoning or discipline involved. You just keep listening for the intuitive guidance and wisdom that directs you toward a life of thriving and flourishing. It’s your feminine essence being expressed AS YOU. My intention is that women understand how to be receptive and allowing of the intuitive process. Do you feel yourself relaxing your resistance and enjoying this process? Are you feeling calmer and more peaceful?

Lead With Your Feminine Side.  This is particularly geared toward professional women, entrepreneurs and women taking a big project into the world who want to lead with a more feminine, intuitive foundation. But every woman can benefit from this practice. The practice here is simple – it’s to shift from the “head energy bubble” to the “heart energy glow”.

Over the past 50 years or so we have tried to level the playing field with men by being more like them. The result is that we have adopted a masculine, assertive style of “doing” and “pushing” rather than using our feminine, intuitive energy to direct us into inspired action. We’ve lost the ability to just “be” and “allow”.

This is a simple shift to make. Before making decisions, working on projects or engaging in relationships, stop and get out of that reasoning, linear head bubble and into your heart glow. FEEL and intuit what you need to do instead of THINKING what to do. It takes a bit of practice, but once you achieve some mastery you’ll find it not only comes more naturally to you, but it will FEEL so much more comfortable, powerful and feminine to you.

Practice Makes Perfect

I hope you adopt these practices as a deeper and more effective way to shift your life into a “feminine relaxation zone”. We are always going to have stressors and challenges, but when we can learn to deal with them from a deeper part of ourselves (something our mainstream conditioning rarely supports) we have a foundation from which to live lives of ease, grace and authenticity.

I know these are hard questions to ask yourself, but I want to also ask you some uplifting questions to get your inspiration and creative juices flowing about how you’re going to turn things around. Here are some provocative questions for you to ponder:

Is 2012 the year of manifesting your entrepreneurial destiny?
Is it the year you’ll make a profound impact and touch the hearts of many?
Is it the year you’ll rise to your highest feminine business potential?
Is it the year you’ll lead the way and change the world?

What if… you could step into your feminine destiny today?
What if… your business expressed 100% of you?
What if… you became an extraordinary feminine leader?

What would all of this FEEL like?

Would it… feel scary, overwhelming, intimidating?
Would it… feel exciting, stimulating, exhilarating?
Would it… feel amazing, remarkable, magnificent?

If these questions have gotten you stirred up a bit – that’s great! But I know you also may be having some angst, anxiety and confusion about what your next step is.

Perhaps, like many other women entrepreneurs, you feel:

• Alone and under-supported to take your life/business in a new and deeply fulfilling direction, despite all the personal/business growth you’ve invested in
• A yearning to live a life overflowing with passion and purpose, but you can’t see a way out of your current circumstances
• Ready to activate the untapped potential within yourself, but you just don’t know how to take the next step or what it might be
• A persistent, burning desire to declare who you REALLY are, yet you’re afraid to step out because of what people might think if you reveal your true self

2. What’s really holding me back from allowing myself to be outrageously successful?
3. What’s the one thing I most want to do with my clients/customers, whether I make money or not?

Declaration: In phase 2 we discuss the declaration of your dreams, visions, passions and the messages you want to express that come from the deepest part of the real you. We get you crystal clear about what you want to communicate and how you’ll do it through brilliant marketing campaigns that will help you gain the online visibility you need for the offers or messages you want to bring into the world.

Then we spend time helping you declare your authentic message clearly and powerfully to your target audience. This means finding your best methods and tactics of marketing your offers that feel really good to you and get you “visible” to your target audience.

Here are 3 questions to ask yourself to help you “declare” your destiny:

1. What do I dream about the most that can impact other people in meaningful ways?
2. What excites me most about being a feminine entrepreneur and owning my own business?
3. What is it I can’t NOT share with the world (what really jazzes me, keeps me up at night)?

Activation. In phase 3 we create the activation steps and systems that will help you master the business goals, plans and resources that will create a unique, extraordinary and world changing business, project or program that’s 100% you (the secret to thriving, flourishing & prospering).

In this phase we activate your message with a solid business model and effective marketing campaigns. Now that you know what gifts and strengths you want to express and you’re clear about the passionate message you want to share, we create the business model and action steps that will manifest your perfect business.

Here are 3 questions to ask yourself to help you “activate” your destiny:

1. What are my top 3 goals for my business right now?
2. What steps do I need to take to achieve my business goals?
3. What resources do I need to help me with my business goals and planning?

I just recently took myself through this entire process (my 2012 planning) and I’m helping my clients to do the same. The result? Incredible clarity about how and why you’re in business, increased focus on how to communicate your unique message to potential clients and complete activation of a business model and plan that’s 100% YOU. The Wisdom of Napoleon Hill

I’d like to share a couple of my favorite quotes by Napoleon Hill, author of the famous and timeless book “Think and Grow Rich”. This book has been a huge influence in my life and business, as it has for many other business people and entrepreneurs. My theme today reflects the wisdom of these two quotes, and I hope it will be an inspiration for you in reflecting upon what 2012 will be like for you — for the passions and desires you’d like to bring into the world next year. 

Here are my two favorite Hill quotes:

“Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” –Napoleon Hill

“Cherish your visions and your dreams as they are the children of your soul,
the blueprints of your ultimate achievements.” –Napoleon Hill 

Don’t these quotes say it all? I think of Napoleon Hill as the original “law of attraction” guru and his book as my first experience of understanding how the power of your mind and your burning desires create your success. But I’d like to change up Napoleon’s wisdom a bit and apply it directly to women — my own “feminine twist” so-to-speak!

“Whatever the heart of woman can conceive and believe, it can RECEIVE.” My belief is that when women are open to receiving we are much more likely to achieve success because receptivity is a powerful feminine quality. Masculine energy tends to be very assertive while feminine energy tends to be very receptive. These two powers are present in all of us, but receptivity feels more natural and comfortable for women.

I’ve developed three keys for attracting feminine success that you can apply to your life, business, project, message or mission for the upcoming year. Instead of creating New Year’s Resolutions, I encourage you to embrace these three keys as you formulate your goals, visions and dreams for 2012.

3 Keys to Attracting Feminine Success:

Key #1: Conceive It.  Conceive in your heart your true desires for your life and your business. What’s the burning desire and passion your heart is aching to express?

Key #2: Believe It.  Believe with all your heart that you will achieve what you desire. Believe in yourself and your unique gifts — 100%.

Key #3: RECEIVE It.  Receive abundance, prosperity and success into your heart. Receive them through that channel which is uniquely feminine — it’s not your head — it’s your heart!

If you apply these three keys to your life every day of 2012, I know you’ll have the best year ever!

STEP 1: Develop a “Know, Like & Trust” Relationship with Your Prospects 

It’s paramount to develop a “know, like and trust” relationship with your prospects. Everything you do in your marketing and networking should be focused on building a trusting relationship with them. Providing opportunities for your prospects to get to know about you and your expertise will make them more comfortable and likely to purchase from you.

Help your prospects get to know you and trust your unique expertise through “social proof” of what you know. Cultivate relationships by leveraging your website, blog, social media marketing, newsletter, advertising, speaking, teleseminars or in-person networking.

Power Marketing Exercise: List 3 new ways you can develop an authentic and trusting relationship so potential clients/customers get to know you, like you and trust you.

STEP 2: Create Juicy “Free Tastes” to Attract Prospects to Your Offers

A great way to build your prospect’s awareness of your products or services is to offer a free taste, tips or tools in your area of expertise. If you’re posting on Facebook or Twitter you can share resources via links to articles, audios or videos. In your newsletter you can include tips that solve prospects’ biggest challenges. If you’re a coach or consultant you could offer a short phone consult to give a taste of how you work with clients.

These methods will help you build authentic relationships that give a big boost to your credibility. Every time your prospects sample a bit of your expertise, they come closer to purchasing your products, programs or services!

Power Marketing Exercise: What free taste of your expertise could you offer prospects by creating a free report, audio or video? How could you share tips and tools via social media, your email list, your newsletter, in-person networking, your website, your blog or submitting articles?

STEP 3: Build Your Prospect List by Building Your “Prospecting Skills”

There’s one very simple secret that will help you grow your prospect list: Your prospect list grows as your prospecting skills grow. It’s really that simple. It may take a little time to build momentum, but as your skills grow and you add more to your marketing mix, you’ll see more prospects and clients flowing into your business.

Facebook is a great example. As you build your friends list and your Fan Page you’ll be adding more authentic relationships that will feed prospects, referrals or collaborations to you. As your Facebook skills grow you attract more people to your fan base, your circle of influence, and subsequently, your prospect list.

Power Marketing Exercise: Write 3 ideas that will develop your prospecting skills and grow your prospect list. Examples are: Start a Facebook Fan Page, submit articles or press releases, attend a networking luncheon, create a newsletter, offer a free teleseminar or webinar.
